virginia
in 1607, Virginia was founded from a desire to gain wealth and to a lesser extent to convert the natives to Christianity. Settlers in this colony discovered that tobacco grew very well in Virginia, and could be sold for very high prices. For these reasons, settlers made huge plantations to grow this cash crop. In 1619, the slave trade began, to provide a large source of cheap labor. Virginia's new form of government: the Virginia House of Burgesses, brought many to Virginia. This new representative form of government showed and inspired others to believe that having a system where citizens have most of the rights might be a bit better. the geography of Virginia was mostly mountains, valleys, and plains. Many important people from history or that we may know about were important to the history of Virginia like Captain John Smith, Pocahontas, Chief Powhatan, John Rolfe, and Nathaniel Bacon. christianity was the major religion in Virginia though others were welcomed.

southern colonies
Government, geography, economy, and religion affected each of the colonies in a different way, but the colonies in the same region were the same. For instance, all of the southern colonies mainly concentrated on agriculture and developed plantations exporting tobacco, cotton, corn, vegetables, grain, fruit, and livestock. This gave the colonist much to trade with giving them money and/or other things. Also the land was mainly mountains, hills, valleys, and coastal plains, giving them little to work with but they managed by growing things that they could support with the land and hot weather. Being a southern colony that was eventually governed as a royal colony, a colony ruled or administered by officials appointed by and responsible to the reigning sovereign of the parent state, this affected how they lived and what rules they lived under. Religion also affected how people lived. For example, religion was mainly christians, catholics, baptists, ect. this gave a way for them to live at peace.
